Welcome to our 2019 concert season where Bel a cappella and Musical Director Anthony Pasquill let words and tones meet in a variety of compelling musical stories - from adventure and poetry to musical expeditions, immersion and meditation.

SUNDAY
5 MAY 2019

St Augustine’s church
balmain, 3pm

Celebrating Anthony Pasquill’s 10th year as Artistic and Musical Director, Bel a cappella present James MacMillan’s five movement work, Sun-Dogs which abounds in striking effects: rapid chanting doubling the held notes of a simple four-part choral progression, deep breathing, whistling, free-floating heterophony and ‘stagewhispered’ toneless rhythmic chanting.

Program Includes

Sun-Dogs James MacMillan

Urlicht (Das Knaben Wunderhorn) Gustav Mahler

Lobet den Herrn Johann Sebastian Bach

Raua Needmine (Curse Upon Iron) Veljo Tormis

Obriu-me-els llavis, Senyor Bernat Vivancos

The singers of Sydney-based choir Bel a cappella are sterling representatives of the great tradition of amateur music making in this country and their season opener demonstrated outstanding ambition and commitment to composers old and new, international and home-grown.
